Nothing beats a nice relaxing day in New York City topped off by some of the best dining in the world. With over 20,000 restaurants with in the city limits finding a fine eatery is a “piece of cake.” A fine eatery could be seen through many different perspectives maybe a meal with 3 courses including 4 spoons, 5 knives and a few forks and an orchestra or a hole in the wall take out restaurant with nothing on the menu over 5 dollars. These drastic differences make for an eventual choosing process.
Food and where you like to enjoy a meal is all personal preference. Most definitely under rated are the street vendors who line every square block in Manhattan. Street dogs are one thing but the Halal is the best of the best. Halal in Arabic means lawful or legal it’s equivalency is the Hebrew word Kosher. The food served from these carts stretch from an Italian sausage and peppers hero to Arabic chicken and rice but the best are the Chicken Gyros. The chicken cooked on a stove top grill is the tastiest chicken one will ever taste. Its taste probably comes from a grill that is cooked on 24/7 and rarely ever cleaned so all the flavors blend to coat the chicken. These little chunks of chicken are then topped with some grilled vegetables with the same savory blend of flavors of the grill. All is put together inside of a pita and topped with Greek Tzatziki yogurt sauce and some nice hot sauce. These gyros are on the healthy side as well low in calories and fat but high in protein and FLAVOR. These carts are definitely not appealing to the eye and maybe need some Windex here and there but the taste of the food is all that counts. I would take a gyro and a coke for 5 dollars any day over a 100 dollar sit down meal on the Upper East Side. This is my personal preference for a dining experience in New York City and I do recommend it to all who are willing to face some fears.
