The Deep Fried Favorite

Why are French fries so divine? While taste always depends on the consumer, there seems to be a general fondness for french-fries. So, what distinguishes French fries from onion rings? I feel as though this liking can be attributed to the overall versatility of the French fry. It can be served with almost any condiment. Obviously ketchup is it’s go-to cohort, however, vinegar, gravy, and mayonnaise are also popular accomplices. From Lemon juice to milkshakes, the deep fried vegetable works well with such a wide variety of flavors that you can appease any one of your taste bud’s hankerings. However, before you go dipping your fry in a chocolate malt milk shake, make sure to note which herbs and garnishments have already marked their territory on the surface area of your fries. The range of seasonings is seemingly endless, however, sea salt, paprika, and old bay spice are a notable few. Some may opt for heavier toppings like chili, cheese, gravy, or a mixture of the sort. While others may prefer an infusion of aioli, rosemary, or even truffle oil to arouse their senses.

Whether shoestrings or steak, curly or rigged, or smiley over waffle, any variation of the fried potato sends an effusion of flavor to the senses. Those looking for a healthier option can always choose to savor the sweet potato fry instead, whereas those in desire of something a little less processed may need to search a bit harder to acquire the beloved boardwalk fry. So, unless starches easily revolt you, there’s sure to be a fry out there you’ll find as sumptuous as I do. Make sure to try a new combination, and whenever you come across a French fry you’ve yet to endeavor on, indulge yourself and prepare for a pleasant surprise.

  1. Great descriptions! You are very correct about the versatility; there are so many amazing condiments and seasonings that go with french fries. I have to say I haven't tried dipping fries into a malt milk shake yet, but it sounds like I better try it.

  2. Emilie, i love french fries too. My favorite topping is by far ketchup, i can almost eat anything with ketchup but i think that on french fries, it tastes best. I agree that all those toppings can also work though. French fries cooked with truffle oil are my all time favorite food.
